# Quickstart

> Go from a new layZ account to a downloaded, cleaned clip in the AI Video Editor. A first win for creators using the dashboard.

This quickstart takes you from signup to a usable clip in the AI Video Editor. You will download a public video, optionally remove on-screen text, and open a project.

## Prerequisites

* A browser on desktop (recommended for the editor)
* A [layZ account](https://layz.ai/auth/signup)
* An active **Starter**, **Creator**, or **Pro** plan (layZ has no free plan)
* Enough credits for one download (1 credit) plus any cleanup job you run

## Get your first clip into layZ

**1. Sign in**

Go to [layz.ai/auth/login](https://layz.ai/auth/login) and sign in. After login you land on **Home** at `layz.ai/app`.

**2. Open the Video Downloader**

In the sidebar, open **Tools → Video Downloader**, or go to [layz.ai/app/tools/video-downloader](https://layz.ai/app/tools/video-downloader).

**3. Paste a public video URL**

Paste a link from a supported platform (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, X, and others). You can paste multiple links for bulk resolve.

Click resolve / download. layZ charges **1 credit per successfully resolved link**.

**4. Pick format and download**

Preview the clip, optionally trim start and end, choose video or audio quality, then download to your device or keep the temporary file in layZ for the next tool.

**5. Optional: remove burned-in text**

Open **Tools → Remove Text from Video**. Upload the file (or continue from a saved result). Confirm the estimated credits, run the job, then download the cleaned output when it finishes.

**6. Open the AI Video Editor**

Go to **AI Video Editor** → **New project**. Import your clip from your device or from **Media**. Place it on the timeline and press play to confirm it loads.

> [!TIP]
>
> You should see your clip on a timeline project you can rename, reopen later, and export when ready.

## Alternative: first video from chat (MCP)

If you already connected an AI client:

1. Ask: `Download this TikTok with layZ and show me the file: <url>`
2. Then: `Remove the watermark from that file`
3. Or start a full run: `Start a Generic Commentary workflow for this video: <url>`
