# How to download a video

> Download videos with layZ three ways: dashboard Video Downloader, workflow downloader step, and MCP. Includes examples for TikTok and YouTube.

You can pull public videos into layZ from the UI, inside a workflow, or from chat.

## Option 1: Dashboard UI

Follow [Video Downloader](https://docs.layz.ai/tools/video-downloader.md). Cost: **1 credit** per resolved link.

**Example**

1. Copy a YouTube Shorts URL.
2. Paste into `layz.ai/app/tools/video-downloader`.
3. Resolve, trim the end screen, download MP4.

## Option 2: Workflow step

1. Start [Generic Commentary](https://docs.layz.ai/workflows/generic-commentary.md) or another template with a downloader module.
2. Paste URLs or upload on that step.
3. Advance when files are ready.

## Option 3: MCP

Use layZ to download https://www.tiktok.com/@creator/video/1234567890
Return the file id and a download URL I can open.
```

For multiple links:

```text theme={null}
Download these with layz_download_media and wait until files are ready:
- <url1>
- <url2>
Then call layz_show_run.
```
