# Edit projects with MCP

> Open layZ editor projects from MCP, read context, apply timeline commands, use edit sessions, and export with web parity tips.

MCP edits the same project documents as the web editor.

## Open a project

```text theme={null}
List projects, open projectId <id>, then get editor context (compact).
```

Tools: `layz_list_projects`, `layz_create_project`, `layz_open_editor_project`, `layz_duplicate_project`.

Save browser work first. If `hasUnsavedChanges` is true on open, resolve the conflict in the UI.

## Read then write

1. `layz_get_editor_context` (and `layz_get_capabilities` when needed)
2. Mutate with `layz_editor_*` tools or a batch `layz_apply_editor_commands`
3. Re-read context if the revision changed
4. `layz_export_video` when approved

## Edit sessions

For risky batches:

1. `layz_begin_edit_session`
2. Apply draft commands
3. `layz_review_edit_session` (manual review in web, or auto apply)
4. Or `layz_discard_edit_session`

## Capability areas

Timeline, audio, captions, effects, motion graphics, keyframes, masks, multicam, markers, sequences, themes, watermarks, undo/redo, and more. Naming pattern: `ADD_MEDIA_TO_TIMELINE` → `layz_editor_add_media_to_timeline`.

Preview-only tools (`play`, `pause`, `seek`, …) do not change the render.

## Export

Same as [Export a video](https://docs.layz.ai/video-editor/export.md): `layz_export_video` → wait → QA frames → share links.
