# MCP overview

> What the layZ MCP is, what agents can do, how auth works, credit usage, and how Connect AI links ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, and other clients.

The **layZ MCP** lets AI clients use your layZ account tools: download, cleanup, enhance, workflows, timeline editing, and export. Agents call typed tools over HTTP instead of clicking the dashboard.

## What agents can do

* List and start templates (including Generic Commentary)
* Download media, remove text, enhance files
* Inspect frames and measure audio
* Drive the video editor with 100+ commands
* Export and return download links
* Open existing web projects

Start every unfamiliar session with capabilities discovery (`layz_get_capabilities`).

## What you need

1. Paid layZ plan
2. A connection from **Connect AI** or [Settings → Connections](https://docs.layz.ai/account/ai-connections.md)
3. A compatible client

## Credits

MCP does not add a separate fee. Tool calls spend the same credits as the dashboard feature they wrap.
