# Markers, versions, and timelines

> Organize layZ edits with markers, saved versions, and multiple timelines (sequences) that share one media library.

## Markers

Markers annotate the ruler. They do **not** render into the export.

* Add at playhead (`M`)
* Edit label, note, and color
* Jump next (`Shift+M`) / previous (`Ctrl+Shift+M`)
* Delete one or clear all

Use markers for “hook”, “punchline”, “B-roll swap”, or review notes for collaborators and AI agents.

## Versions

* **Save version** with an optional label (keeps the newest set)
* **Restore** a snapshot (undoable)
* Delete versions you no longer need

Save a version before big AI or MCP changes.

## Timelines (sequences)

A project can hold multiple timelines (up to 12) that share media:

* New empty timeline
* Duplicate this timeline
* Rename
* Delete an inactive timeline
* Export one timeline or **Export all timelines** in batch

## Interchange export

From the timeline toolbar export icon:

* **FCPXML**
* **EDL (CMX3600)**
* **Project file (.layz.json)**
* **Import project file** (replaces current edit, one undo)

## FAQ

> [accordion] Do markers show on TikTok?
>
> No. Export only includes rendered layers. Markers are editor metadata.
