# Timeline editing

> Edit multi-track timelines in layZ: trim, split, ripple, tracks, snapping, undo, record voice-over, and place media from the library.

The timeline is where clips become a finished Short. Pair it with the [Media panel](https://docs.layz.ai/video-editor/media-panel.md).

## Core actions

* Drag media onto video or audio tracks
* Trim in/out, split at playhead (`S`)
* Move, duplicate, copy/paste, delete
* Multi-select clips
* Toggle snapping (`N`)
* Undo / redo
* Add tracks; reorder, mute, lock, hide, resize tracks
* Zoom the timeline; scrub the playhead
* **Record voice-over** at the playhead

## Track stacking

Lower tracks sit behind upper tracks. Use this for backgrounds, picture-in-picture, captions, and stickers.
