# Generic Commentary workflow

> Produce commentary Shorts with layZ Generic Commentary: download, optional cleanup, script modes, voiceover, editor recipe, captions, graphics, and export.

**Generic Commentary** (`generic-commentary`) is the flagship official workflow for short-form commentary videos.

## What you get

A guided path from source footage to a vertical export with narration, captions, emphasis graphics, and audio polish.

## Module order

1. **Video Downloader**: URLs or uploads; inspect footage
2. **AI Video Clipper** (optional): choose useful windows
3. **Remove Text from Video** (optional): clean overlays
4. **AI Script Writer**: narration grounded in what you saw
5. **AI Voiceover Generator**: speech from the saved script
6. **Video Editor**: captions, focus graphics, SFX, timeline recipe
7. **Video Exporter**: render the final file

## Run it in the dashboard

**1. Start the template**

Open [Workflows](https://layz.ai/app/templates) → Generic Commentary → start a run.

**2. Ingest and inspect**

Download or upload sources. Watch the clips and note on-screen beats.

**3. Optional cleanup**

Clip and/or remove text. Skip modules that do not apply.

**4. Write the script**

Keep it spoken and specific. Optionally use the [Readability Checker](https://docs.layz.ai/tools/readability-checker.md).

**5. Choose assistance mode**

**Automatic** skips routine approval. **Guided** requires approving the exact script before voiceover.

**6. Voice, edit, export**

Generate voiceover, apply the editor recipe, export, review, download, write a publication title.

## Guided vs automatic

| Mode | Behavior |
| - | - |
| Automatic | Proceed after the script is saved |
| Guided | Human approval required before paid voiceover |
| Undecided | Choose a mode first |

## MCP

```text theme={null}
Start Generic Commentary for <url>. Use guided mode. Inspect frames yourself.
Pause for script approval, then finish voice, edit, and export with links and a title.
```
