# Workflows overview

> Use layZ Workflows to run official video templates like Generic Commentary, build custom automations, and track run history with plan retention.

**Workflows** (nav label for `layz.ai/app/templates`) are multi-step productions. Each run moves through modules such as download, cleanup, script, voiceover, editor, and export. Official templates and your own graphs live here.

## Page layout

| Tab | Purpose |
| - | - |
| **Video templates** | Official prebuilt templates by category |
| **Your templates** | Graphs you or MCP created |
| **Run history** | Past runs with status and files |

Header actions include **Connect AI**, **Create template**, and **Request a template** (Creator and Pro).

## Official templates

The primary official template is **Generic Commentary** (`generic-commentary`): download → optional clip/cleanup → AI-assisted script → voiceover → editor → export.

## Start a workflow in the UI

**1. Open Workflows**

Go to [layz.ai/app/templates](https://layz.ai/app/templates).

**2. Choose a template**

Open a card from **Video templates** or **Your templates**.

**3. Start a run**

Follow the run UI at `layz.ai/app/templates/{templateId}/run/{runId}`.

**4. Complete modules in order**

Finish or skip optional steps, then advance. Export when the editor step is ready.

## Retention

Workflow files expire after your plan’s retention window with no activity:

| Plan | Retention |
| - | - |
| Starter | 7 days |
| Creator | 30 days |
| Pro | 90 days |

Opening a run, updating it, or using **Keep for N days** restarts the timer. Details: [Billing and credits](https://docs.layz.ai/account/billing-and-credits.md#workflow-file-retention).

## Credits

Creating a workflow template does not use credits. Running steps does (downloads, voiceover, cleanup, export, and so on).
